Medusa
Medusa pairs a composed human face with the intricate movement of snakes surrounding the head. The contrast gives the portrait its tension: the face holds the viewer’s attention while the curling forms continually redirect it.
The sculpture approaches a familiar mythological subject through the intimacy of a bust. Its expression invites a longer encounter than a single dramatic gesture would allow. As the light changes, the face and surrounding forms reveal different aspects of the work, bringing complexity to an image often reduced to its most fearsome attribute.
